It was sometime after midnight and my 10-year-old body was firmly planted in the desk chair next to the big bay window of my parents first house, my eyes fixed on whatever I was doing at the moment. It was summer and even back then I had a tendency of becoming obsessed with the task at hand. My concentration was so laser focused that I didn’t notice I wasn’t alone. I’m not sure how long he was there or how long he was watching. It was sometime after midnight when a June bug crashed into the window causing me to look over my right shoulder through the exposed bay window. That’s when I saw him - standing mere feet away behind the end of a polished barrel.
Kidding! That was the plot of a terrible recurring nightmare I still randomly have. I needed to suck you in to build a window of opportunity for a proper introduction to a little thing I’m calling a blog. QUICK BACKSTORY... For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a daydreamer. Some of my earliest memories are living out elaborate scenarios of crossing the country with nothing but a knapsack full of fruit snacks and toys (the essentials only) or racing through the desert on dirt bikes trying to escape an almost certain death, all from the backyard with my brothers. I didn’t need a tent for shelter from the sprinkler rainstorm or a boat to cross the flooded pasture “river” in Tom Sawyer fashion. We had a royal blue sandbox lid that could be leaned against a tree or flipped upside down and voila! Home and boat in one. Work smarter, not harder people. My mom credits me with being an easy baby. She’s told me on more than one occasion that I was very content playing by myself. That’s still true today. I have no problem going on solo cinematic adventures, shopping alone, or exploring a Pride parade/festival with me, myself, and I. But I LOVE people and especially new experiences. In my pursuit to experience the world, I’ve met incredible people who I’ve now taken as hostages on my life journey. I’m a lifer. With that said, I have people to brag about and experiences to share. People think I’m shy. Let’s be clear – I am not shy. I am more reserved than some, more outspoken than others. I was taught to speak when I have something to say and can add value to a conversation – not always the result, but I have good intentions. This brings me to the why. Why create Type A(wesome)? First, my grandpa lovingly told me I was a good writer. Love makes us do silly things. Second, I like to dabble in a lot of things, and given how many ideas shuffle through my mind, it makes sense to put it all down in virtual ink and take a real shot at writing. WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU? This blog is for my fellow daydreamers – the people who have a hundred ideas before breakfast, the people who are curious about life’s little oddities, and random things in between. So, here you’ll find opinions, experiences, and hopefully a good time. No need to call. Tell me if you don’t like something. Tell me if you do. Tell me if you like red, or if you prefer blue. Honestly, your favorite color isn’t necessary, but constructive feedback is. Bring it. I MIGHT BE TYPE A, BUT I READ IT AS TYPE AWESOME. Besos!
